La Cartuja, Benahavis, Marbella – very large 4 bedroom duplex penthouse for sale fully-furninshed

If you’ve got a large family and are looking for an equally large luxury apartment on the Costa del Sol ready to move into that represents great value for money, then the penthouse apartment on sale in the La Cartuja complex might just be the one for you.

I jumped in my car and went along to take a peek around…

The first thing to say is that La Cartuja is literally located slap, bang in the middle of the Atalaya golf course, and as such is surrounded by greenery as far as the eye can see and extremely handy if you fancy nipping out for a round or two of golf.

Although technically within the municipality of Estepona, the complex is actually closer to the coastal town of San Pedro Alcántara and the village of Benahavis than Estepona town itself.

It’s a safe, gated community with security guards on duty around the clock and reassuringly, the comings and goings of residents and visitors are tightly monitored.

Once inside, a tree-lined access road takes you around the outside of the complex, with plenty of shaded off-street parking to be had.

There’s an underground car park too, in which this penthouse has its own private space.

I chose to park outdoors, parked up under the shade of a trees and climbed the short external stairway to the penthouse’s front door.

What I found on the other side took my quite by surprise.

When I say this penthouse is large, it has some 270m2 of living space all told, distributed over 2 floors. It actually feels more like a villa than a penthouse.

The ground floor consists of a cavernous living/dining room area with a large open fireplace, vast floor-to-ceiling built-in book shelves and stylish ‘alternative’ décor and access out to the first of the property’s 3 main terraces.

This terrace not only had plenty of outdoor living/dining space, but also private access via a door and an exterior stairwell to the complex’s swimming pool and communal gardens below.

There are hefty antique doors seemingly everywhere in this penthouse. Back in the living room, I open one particularly impressive set to find a small wine cellar alongside a truck-sized American-style fridge.

There was another fridge just like it in the kitchen too, which like everything else in this property is of a generous size.

A separate compact utility room is accessible from the kitchen.

3 of the property 4 bedrooms are located off a long a corridor that runs almost the entire length of the first floor.

The Master bedroom, in keeping with the rest of the penthouse is done on a grand scale. It has its own walk-in dresser, a simply enormous en suite bathroom with a shower, a massage bath and twin sinks.

This and the second bedroom both have access out to a second terrace that overlooks the gardens and pool area below.

The 3rd bedroom meanwhile, is spacious and also has its own small balcony and en suite bathroom.

The last of the bedrooms is up on the second floor.

It’s basically a converted outside terrace that’s been enclosed and still sports the original terracotta floor tiles.

The second floor has another enclosed terrace area which has been converted into a private gym, replete with exercise machines.

There’s also a vast rooftop solarium in which to bask in the glorious Mediterranean sunshine or enjoy outdoor dining.

In addition to the swimming pool and the beautifully manicured communal gardens, the complex also boasts tennis and padel courts courts.

Although this penthouse is sold fully-furnished and is effectively ready to move into, there are one or two odd places that could perhaps do with a little spruce up – one of the bathrooms, for example could do with a more modern touch.

But then again, perhaps I’m just being picky .

Given it’s size and overall quality, this is a fabulous property and at just €550.000 really does represent excellent value for money.
