First Michelle Obama, now Hollywood comes to Marbella
As if a holiday trip to Marbella by US First Lady Michelle Obama and her daughter didn’t focus enough attention on the undoubted charms of the Costa del Sol, several major Hollywood stars were also in town during the same week to attend a charity gala at the same 5-star Villa Padierna Hotel where Mrs. Obama stayed.
A-list celebs including Antonio Banderas, Eva Longoria, ex-tennis sensation Boris Becker, supermodel Eugenia Silva, Melanie Griffiths and many top Spanish stars were on hand to help raise funds for the Starlite Gala, a new yearly charity bash created to bring together the worlds of business, celebrity and philanthropy will the sole aim of raising money for fiscally responsible charities.
The glamour and glitz was reminiscent of Marbella and Puerto Banus in its hey day as a mecca for the rich and famous.
The visit by Mrs. Obama combined with the presence of leading celebrities in Marbella created a wealth of positive media coverage for Marbella and the Costa del Sol, the value of which has been estimated at some 800 million Euros.
It couldn’t come at a better time after the recent years of largely negative press.
But more importantly, the international media coverage refocused attention on a fact many people have forgotten – the Costa del Sol area is actually a wonderful place to be!
