With prices down, now is the time to buy a golf property on the Costa del Sol

The ‘Costa del Golf’, ‘Golf Valley’, ‘Golfer’s Paradise’…these are just some of the alternative names that have been associated with Spain’s Costa del Sol. And with something like 70 courses located between Velez-Málaga at the eastern end of the coast, and San Roque to the west, it’s no wonder.

Anyone that loves a round or two of golf will tell you this particular area of Spain has some of the best, most challenging courses to play in Europe, if not the entire world.

High quality golf properties for sale on the Costa del Sol

There are some amazing price deals on golf properties on the Costa del Sol

For a start, there’s Valderrama in Sotogrande which played host to the Ryder Cup in 1997. Then there’s Finca Courtesin, host of the 2009 Volvo World Match Play Championship.

But there are also many other courses suitable for players of all levels and they all have one thing in common – golfers come here from all corners of the world to play almost all year round due to the Costa del Sol’s famously dry and sunny micro-climate.

Many of course come here to live and play golf either permanently or part of the year, so the courses  have always traditionally offered a wide range of property for sale overlooking their greens and fairways – everything from palatial mansions and villas, to apartments and townhouses.

And the build quality is generally very high indeed.

Many golfing clients of mine who’ve bought property overlooking a golf course tell me it’s pretty much like heaven.

It’s not just the fact that they can just nip out and play a round of golf pretty much whenever the mood takes them; there are many other perks that come within a golf resort that simply would not be available in other residential areas – perks such as hotels and clubhouses boasting top-class restaurants, bars, luxurious spas, gyms, a myriad of other sporting facilities, even shops.

The courses are also, generally speaking, in some of the most beautiful spots on the coast – whether they be slightly inland, near the beach or close to cosmopolitan residential areas like Marbella and Puerto Banús.

What’s more, with the ongoing economic crisis and resultant stagnant property market, some golf resort developers on the Costa del Sol are seriously dropping the asking prices and even throwing in free golf membership in a desperate attempt to attract buyers.

So, if you’re a golf aficionado and fancy a place overlooking a course here, now is absolutely the time to buy.
